Trumpet: Methods and Mindset

Group guitar class taught by Alex Brown

1 hour per week

New

Take your trumpet musicianship to the next level with Alex Brown's key philosophies on practice and performance in this 2 class course! The first class will be centered around methods of practice that will further connect the abstract, ever chaotic state of the mind to the consistent, physical state of an instrument. These methods will help you to quickly adopt new playing techniques, eliminate weaknesses, and expand on your strengths. The second class will focus on Alex's pre-concert "ritual," and involves simple but useful tips to keep you on your A-game while on stage. We have all dealt with performance anxiety and the accompanying symptoms such as shakes, dry-mouth, and sweaty palms to some degree. In this class, Alex offers his own strategies to maintain a level head when performing for an audience and keep many of these issues at bay.

What you'll do

Perspectives in Practice

- Why warming up is important - How to practice to achieve favorable results - "Mushin No Shin" and the power of repetition - The ultimate technique to improve your articulation response

Perspectives in Performance

- Understanding your audience - Framing your performance anxiety into excitement - Self-care and how to practice the week prior to a performance - How to carry yourself on-stage to keep the audience engaged

Who you are
Beginners are welcome although the concepts are aimed at intermediate to advanced players. Fundamental knowledge of the trumpet is recommended. This is not a "how to play the trumpet" course, but rather "how to practice and perform."
What to bring
If you wish to take part in the interactive segments, a trumpet would be ideal. If you don't have access to one at the moment, that's no problem, there are plenty of things I can share with you that you can apply to your own practice later on!
