I am a lover of guitar. I have been playing since I was 7 - I grew up playing with my 4 siblings. I studied at USC, where I received my Doctorate in Guitar Performance and now am a professor. I play constantly- touring with artists such as Jason Mraz, Molly Miller Trio, and all over the internet!
What you'll do

The Number Game

The key to understanding modes is understanding numbers. Instead of numbers being a way to confuse you, let's get into this and internalize what the numbers mean and most importantly, what they sound like.

Visualization Tools

Shapes are vital - let's use the shapes we know and love to understand the modes

Jams

It's time to apply this to music. Let's look at a variety of progressions to apply this knowledge.

What Are Modes?

This concept alone can be very confusing. Let's dive into what this actually means and how to understand what they are and when to use them. And OF COURSE- how to use them in music.

Who you are
This class is for students that are on the upper spectrum of intermediate to advanced. I would recommend having taken my String Theory courses before taking this. You only need a basic understanding of theory, but you should be familiar with the CAGED system and the core guitar voicings: major, dominant, seventh chords, open chords, and barre chords. Experience with improvisation is advised as well.
